A Day in Downtown Fredrick

I spent the loveliest (pardon the British in me, but that’s just the best word to describe this outing) afternoon with my very best friend today in downtown Fredrick.

Surprisingly enough, I’ve lived in the DMV on-and-off for nearly a decade, and had never been to Fredrick until today.

Fredrick was very different than I expected it to be. Downtown feels very colonial: with brick and quaint being its main selling points for its charm.

I honestly expected it to be soulless, and industrial… but it reminded me very much of downtown Bethesda and other New England cities that I’ve been to.

We sat by Carroll Creek while waiting for an appointment.

Afterwards, we stopped and grabbed a bite at Café Nola – a mostly vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options and to die for amazingly handcrafted lattés.

 I got the Vegan Hash.

The fake cheese and meat with both great; my only complaints are that it was slightly too oily, but when I ate them with something green (the sprouts they put on the top were phenomenal, and the hash had a perfect ratio of crunchy/healthy and fatty/salty when I ate a forkful of half hash, half sprouts – but there needed to be ten times the number of sprouts, or some other kind of green in the dish) it was perfect.

Also, I’m a stickler when it comes to coffee… but this was excellent.

This cup reminded me of a soy latté that I had in Dublin a few months back.

I got the Salted Caramel Latté with soy milk. It was extremely difficult to choose just one.

Afterwards, we hoped back on the beloved 270-South (she said with sarcasm) to head back home towards our neck of the woods in the DMV.
