France Set to Open to American Tourists June 9th – My Travel Plans
The thought, “When can Americans travel to France again?” has been on my mind every day since the borders closed over a year ago.
When I read that France is set to open their borders to Americans on June 9th, I was ecstatic – as I’m sure many other Americans were that have been wishing to travel to France again were!
France is set to finally re-open their borders for non-essential reasons starting June 9th, 2021.
President Macaron has said that Americans wishing to enter France will be allowed to do so with a special, "health pass".
Americans wishing to enter France will need to present a negative PCR test result or proof that they are fully vaccinated at the border. American tourists must present a vaccine certificate or proof of vaccination that is approved for use within France or the European Union.
The European Union is also seeking a digital health certificate to allow free movement within the Schengen area after a year of strict travel restrictions.
The member states of the EU are also planning to open to Americans this summer if they are fully vaccinated or can present a negative test, but France has announced their re-opening plans ahead of the EU for June 9th.
Travel to Europe as a whole remains restricted – but not for much longer.
However, until the rest of the European countries are open for travel, American travelers can focus on planning our trips to France!
Don’t know where to start once you finally land in France from the United States after a year away?
Here are some things I’m going to do once I’m back in Paris:
1. I’m going to buy a baguette with my 2-euro coin that I saved from last time.
… and then eat said baguette. It’s been a long time since I’ve had decent bread, let alone good bread in France.
2. I’m going to the Eiffel Tower.
… and I’m staying there. For hours. I’m going to sit on that little patch of grass on the top left side of Trocadero Gardens. I’m going to watch the Eiffel Tower light up. And I’m going to think how I’d go through all of the absolute, depressing crap all over again just for her.
3. I’m going to Rue Cremineux.
It’s been a long while since Americans have been able to travel. In 2021, it’s time for us U.S. citizens to make up for lost time.
It’s time to get our Instagram-travel-bucket-list-shots in order again starting June 9th.
4. I’m going on that Ferris Wheel near Jardin de Tulieres.
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to marvel in the view of Paris. After over a year of non-essential travel to France, you can catch up the top of this Ferris wheel this June.
5. I’m going up Galleries Lafayette.
It was closed last time I went, and I was very disappointed… though not by my Centre Pompidou view I went to instead.
Paris is such a magical city... I’m so glad starting June 9th, vaccinated Americans, or people who tested negative, can be in France to see views like this again!
P.S. – I want to go up the Arc de Triomphe too!
6. I’m going to Place du tetre near Montmarte at sunrise.
And I’m going to spot la maison rose this time, while I’m at it.
7. I’m going up Montparnasse Tower.
To reminisce back to the 18-year-old girl who followed her heart and fell in love immediately with the place that was everything she never knew she was always looking for.
If you have never been up the Montparnasse Tower, and you are traveling to France this summer – I couldn't recommend this view more.
8. I’m picnicking at Places des Voges.
Picnicking in the states just isn’t the same. Americans in France have waited to sun-bathe in a Parisian summer for two years now.
American’s cravings for baguettes, macaroons, and croissants can finally be satisfied starting June 9th.
9. I’m reading a book in Jardin du Luxemborug.
To read in the garden with a café au lait, a croissant, the pigeons oscillating around me in the sky, and the magical foreign tongue that whispers in the air.
I’m ready to read, eat, see, breathe, and all-around enjoy Paris for the first time in a long time.
10. I’m going to wander the city for hours on foot.
And marvel in its movie like charm, every day, and every second – for the rest of my life.
